Motor to high on transom, staved water pump at high speeds

I am about to do this but I bought the full rebuild kits. Question 1. What jets if any are behind the screws you advised against removing? 2. To clarify, I read there was a TSB on removing those air hoses. You left the air hoses off and sealed them with electrical shrink wrap? 3. Do you have a video on syncing them after or should they be pretty much synced if not messing with the throttle on removal?

Has anyone modified the distributor with an aftermarket trigger?

Hey son, just got an old 79 thundercraft with an 80 horse mercury in it. It tops out at around 7 mph and doesn’t rev up all the way when the throttle lever is all the way down. Any idea on what the issue could be? Also how did you hook up the hose to the 80 I cannot find a hose hookup for the life of me 😂

Hey Son. Have you ever come across one of these woring harnesses thats brittle and corroded back into the main connector? Just wondering if its still repairable if i cut the rubber back

I have a 850 thunderbolt are used to choke it to get it out of the hole, now, it only bogs, I haven’t checked the carburetors I have illuminated fuel leaks, what do you think?

Thanks for your videos very helpful I have the same engine tired to time it so far found tdc but I can’t get it timed I adjust the idle stop screw basically all the way out and I still could not hit between recommend 0 to3 so I had to fully back out throttle screw all the way now it hits around 2 and runs great but my top spark can only hit around 17 20 can’t tell exactly definitely not 28 engine runs it’s restarted but it runs throttle engages very late because it’s not engaging until I hit max spark not sure if anything makes sense but if it does maybe you can point me in the right direction

I have a 1975 Merc Outboard 2 stroke four cyl 50hp. It has a Mercury 333-3213A3 ignition switch, which the mechanic said went bad (the boat wouldn't start). I can't find an off-brand (new version replacement) for this. 2 or 3 original styles are available for 450 USD +... i already bought 2 for close to a hundred... Does anybody know if this ignition box only deals with the boat starting? I ask because after one company never shipped me a used replacement, another one did and mechanic installed it. My issue before the replacement was boat wouldnt turn over. Now, with used replacement, boat starts, but its idling really fast (in forward and neutral), and when i give throttle on the controls, boat only goes a touch faster and maxes out just a touch mlre than trolling speed. REALLY SLOW. Feels like I have a 4hp motor insteaf of a 50hp. My mechanic thinks there's something to do with the ignition switch box and timing in the way that the motor is running really bad and revving really high. But I was thinking this ignition box only took care of ignition and not the way the motor runs once the boat is started. I'm now trying to find yet another ignition switch box in case the one that I got in is defective in a different way. Even though my boat is now starting, something is really wrong with it. Plus, oil is dripping from the bottom of my propeller now into a little pail since using the boat for the first time yesterday. If anybody knows I would appreciate any help I can get cuz I buried so much money into this old motor I'm losing my mind. Ps - i can't find a replacement for my model. Thanks for your time!

What water pump kit fits these? So many on Amazon i have same engine 200xri serial 0G051044. Having same issues going to change everything. Awesome video

@MerCSon L6 I was wondering where the voltage regulator is on my Mercury 89, I can see the rectifier you are referencing in the video, but no regulator. As such the voltage under way goes up to 18-19V to the battery depending on the refs. I can only guess that the owner before me removed it and never installed one again, or did the motor not come with one?

What kind of sealant do you use on the gasket?.

So on the old style enrichner valve is clockwise full tight considered closed? Or counter clockwise? And should it be fully closed for normal operation?

Working on my 650. I am getting more confident... long ways from your expertise.... The one thing that REALLY is messing me up is the disassembly and having the right tools to reach some of the trouble spots. Keep the faith and thank for your help!

Would completely removing the rectifier and isolating the three wires, two yellow and one red/black, affect the timing at wide open throttle? I was having a issue with my V6 Blackmax not going over 1500rpm and saw on one of your other videos that it might be due to a bad rectifier. Pulled it off the motor and taped off the wires and it rev'd up under load in the water like it should, but now it has a miss- cutout at WOT. Any ideas?

FYI! I purchased a genuine quicksilver kit from my local dealership. The kit came with a note. Read, you must replace spring and cup. Which are parts of the primer assembly. The new spring allowed the check ball to go into its coils. Causing the engine to run excessively rich, and thats if you got it running.

Son, I have a 1975 1500 and I have rebuilt carbs, made sure getting enough fuel, linked and synced, according to ur video. We even chatted a little about a misunderstanding I had about it. I got it all squared away and running however, when it's put into the water under a load, it goes ok a little then When full throttle just bogs out and won't go any faster. What do u suggest? Thanks in advance.

Why does my 1988 mariner 115 run perfect at house on muffs. But when drive to lake very hard to get it started. Once started . Its full throttle 5mph. After ideling like that it finally gets on plain and you can feel the motor kicking in and out like fast then kicks back speed then flies again. Once goes thru that evanuly it runs great rest of day

I have an 87 mercury 70 HP 3 cylinder and I'm trying to ohm the trigger. It has a brown, white, violet and black. Do you know the specs? From black to each of the other colors I get 750's for ohms. And when I test the 3 colored wires, not black, together I get 1050 ohms.

Replacement of all ignition coils is mandatory when replacing switchboxes. A single bad coil will damage a switchbox instantly. Engine may still work but we might get overheating from a second spark arriving 90 degrees before the good dpark on time.
